Excellent job in finding the perfect metal to use, John, and thanks for sharing your experiences!

Before purchasing my fiance's engagement ring, I did a lot of research on all my options. Finally, I concluded that Platinum is certainly a superior choice of metal. You are right, it is in fact 95% pure. While "white gold" is mixed with alloys to produce the white look, Platinum naturally has a brilliant white luster. It is also one of earth's rarest metals. Compared to gold, platinum is 30 times more rare. Interestingly enough, it is said that if all the gold was gathered in the world it would be able to fill about 3 Olympic size swimming pools. Platinum, on the other hand will only fill one-third of one pool! This comes to show how rare and unique this precious metal really is. My fiance also has sensitive skin which does not tolerate any other metal. I found that platinum is one true hypoallergenic precious metal. Make sure to do your research and choose the metal that is right for you.

Nicole - Platinum is certainly stronger than gold, but you can also consider stainless steel, titanium, or tungsten. Check out these articles for more information: Titanium Engagement Rings, Tungsten Wedding Rings, and Stainless Steel Wedding Rings. Best wishes!

platinum is definately the way to go. You can see its so much more beautiful that white gold or silver, and a high quality gold tends to be too malleable. My friend has a white gold ring and it has bent out of shape quite a bit in the last few years. Another friend has a platinum ring and it seems to glow. it really stands out over its cheaer versions, so if you can afford it, go for it.
