Excellent point, Gabe, but remember that a GIA report is not necessarily a guarantee of quality -- it is an impartial evaluation, so it can also reveal flaws that may not be visible.

Thanks for the advice. I also think that it is very important to get a diamond grading report from GIA. Its the best way to make sure that what you are getting is a quality diamond. GIA provides the information needed to make the consumers feel secure about the purchase they are making.

Janelle - You could contact the Gemological Institute of America to see if they happen to track information about registered gems, or you can investigate through the jeweler where you bought the diamond. Best wishes!

I recently found a Diamond near my place of employment and took it to a jeweler that proceeded to tell me that it was a real diamond. I would like to know if there is any way to track this diamond and the owner. I do have a serial number for this diamond. Thank You for your time. Janelle
