Desiree - The best option is to take it for an independent appraisal. They can verify the quality of the ring and its current value, including whether or not the stone is real. It would also be a good idea to have a jeweler examine it for damage and aging defects so you can have them repaired if necessary so the stone won't be lost. Best wishes!
-- Contributed by: MayntzHi, I have just been given a beautiful large emerald sigle stone ring from my mum. This belonged to her Granmother, and my mum was given it when she was 15. She is now 56. It must be old as she remembers her granmother wearing it when she was only young. The gole ring band is fairly thin now but the emerald is in good condition. Its about 1.5cm long and 1cm wide. It has stamps inside the ring band but hard to make out. Its rectangle shaped. How can I find out if the emerald is real. I love it anyways but would be nice to know. Thanks

There are many factors that can affect the value, and it can't be accurately judged without physically inspecting the ring.
