Kay Jewelers
From LoveToKnow EngagementRings
By Melissa Mayntz.
“Every kiss begins with Kay” is the memorable slogan of one of the nation’s most popular jewelry chains, Kay Jewelers. With an extensive selection of classic engagement rings, this nationwide merchant offers not only beautiful designs, but also superior customer service and convenient purchase options to suit every couple.
About Kay Jewelers
From humble beginnings in 1916 when two brothers opened their first store in the corner of their father’s furniture store in Reading, Pennsylvania, Kay Jewelers has expanded today to more than 800 stores throughout the United States, including boutiques in Alaska and Hawaii. Most stores are located in malls, making the chain even more convenient for couples looking for a quality product without approaching niche jewelers or independent designers.
Types of Engagement Rings
There are several types of engagement rings available at Kay stores, including:
- Diamond Solitaire Engagement Rings: The most popular solitaire shapes are marquise, round, and princess, and they are available in sizes ranging from one-fifth to one full carat. Kay’s solitaire prices range from $300-7,000 depending on the size of the stone, whether it is set in yellow or white gold, and what the stone’s overall quality is.
- Three Stone Engagement Rings: Kay offers a variety of trio rings with matched shapes to symbolize a couple’s past, present, and future in stunning diamond fire. Prices range from $200-5,500 depending on the ring’s total carat weight and stone quality.
- Bridal Set Engagement Rings: A wide range of double and triple ring sets are available that utilize wraps and enhancers to create unified rings with multiple accent stones. Round and baguette shapes are the most popular accents, and the rings frequently combine prong, cluster, and channel settings for an attractive arrangement. Bridal sets are available in sizes from one-tenth of a carat to two full carats of diamonds.
- Gemstone Rings: Kay offers a number of different gems in assorted designs, including aquamarine, rubies, tanzanite, and pearls, as well as appropriate birthstones for different months. While these rings are not listed exclusively as engagement rings, they are eminently suitable for brides-to-be who prefer a colored gem or a more unique ring.
Couples interested in the finest diamonds may want to examine Kay’s selection of Leo Diamonds, stones that are independently measured and graded according to exacting standards. Leo Diamonds are typically more expensive than standard diamonds, and they are available in all of Kay’s designs.
Wedding Bands
Key Jewelers offers a traditional selection of wedding bands for men and women. While many women’s bands are enhancers or wraps to pair with engagement rings, men’s wedding bands have a greater variety of metals, including tungsten, titanium, and multi-tone rings. Some variations, especially for women’s rings, include diamonds for added sparkle.
Anniversary Jewelry
Couples who want to begin their own jewelry traditions by purchasing anniversary jewelry at the same jeweler as their engagement ring will not be disappointed by Kay’s selection. Numerous earrings including fashion pieces and studs are available, as well as necklaces and bracelets. Anniversary bands are particularly popular, and Kay offers different styles to match any wedding set.
Limitations of the Kay Jewelers Selection
Couples who prefer classic, traditional jewelry can easily find what they are looking for at a Kay store, but the chain does not offer extensive collections of specialized rings such as eternity bands, unusual diamond shapes, or colored diamonds. By focusing on timeless pieces that are consistently popular, Kay is able to offer the finest quality of those pieces without spreading their expertise too thin on different options.

Comments
Upgrade, We are not representatives of Kay jewelers; you would need to check with one of their stores directly. However, please note that many jewelers, even if they will not upgrade, will be happy to set an existing diamond in a new ring for you (which is usually the biggest part of your investment). Then, you could resell the original setting (possibly even to the same store). As for an upgrade, your best bet is to check with your original jewelry store, since they are the most likely to offer you that service.
-- Contributed by: Ann M.I have a engagment ring I bought online but not from kay. It was for a Ex but now im geting engaged agine and dont want to give the same ring does kay take rings for upgrade? Thank you for the info
-- Contributed by: upgradeCandis - Not all diamonds come with certification paperwork; it depends on where he bought the stone and the quality of it (noncertified gems rarely come with full reports). No, you will not be able to get a higher quality gem without paying the additional price for it, but you may be able to upgrade to a better or larger stone if you pay the added cost for doing so. I'd recommend taking the ring back to the jeweler he purchased it from (the exact store if possible) and inquiring about upgrades or exchanges for something more to your liking. Best wishes!
