Diamond Infinity Rings
From LoveToKnow EngagementRings
All couples hope their relationship will last beyond infinity, and diamond infinity rings are the perfect way to symbolize that commitment with style and distinction.
Why Diamonds?
Diamonds are the ultimate symbol of love, devotion, romance, and purity. Diamonds are formed over millions of years, and that initial longevity can transfer into the ring’s meaning as well. Their elegant colorless hue draws the eye into the depths of their sparkle with facets that reflect hundreds of times, creating a minute infinity within the body of the gem. Despite such poetic reasoning, however, there are also many practical reasons to choose diamonds for infinity rings.
The classic brilliance of diamonds lends itself well to a ring that can be worn with many different wardrobe changes, and diamond infinity rings coordinate with other pieces of jewelry and fashions that gemstone rings may not. Furthermore, many women opt to wear infinity rings as elegant wedding bands, and the stunning simplicity of diamonds will match any engagement ring design, even if it does use colored gemstones.
Women who still want a bit of color in their infinity ring do have the option of choosing fancy colored diamonds, however. Pink diamonds are especially popular, though blue diamonds and yellow diamonds are also favored. For a completely distinctive ring, black diamonds make a powerful statement.
Types of Diamond Infinity Rings
A basic infinity ring – also call an eternity ring – has a single line of diamonds that completely encircles the ring’s circumference. This does not mean, however, that the ring must be plain or predictable. Different infinity ring designs include:
- Pave settings that minimize the metal between and around the stones.
- Channel settings that add bands of metal on the edges of the stones but not between them.
- Bar settings that separate each jewel with a thin piece of metal, perhaps in a contrasting yellow gold for added flair.
- Alternating diamond shapes to add texture, such as using princess cuts or emerald cuts with round stones for unique patterns.
- Patterns of diamond shapes that are even more unusual than simply alternating stones.
- Milgrain edges to add delicate texture to the ring’s metal.
- Scatter settings that use fewer stones for a more affordable option.
Clearly, there are many different options for infinity ring designs. Couples should chose a design that coordinates well with other diamond jewelry if the ring will be worn frequently, or else choose a design that best mirrors the wearer’s personality and jewelry preferences.
Wearing an Infinity Ring
Many women wear diamond infinity rings as elegant diamond wedding rings because not only are the beautiful bands, but they also coordinate well with any diamond engagement ring. At the same time, however, a wide band infinity ring may overshadow a simpler engagement ring, a problem that can be corrected by choosing a coordinating diamond ring wrap or enhancer. An infinity ring may also make the combined set disproportionately wide for the woman’s finger, in which case the band should be worn by itself on whichever hand is most comfortable.
If the infinity ring has open edges, such as with a pave setting, it should not be worn against other rings that it could scratch or the delicate edges of the diamonds may be chipped. In this case, it is best to wear the ring alone, but the elegance of seemingly unattached diamonds will be just as impressive as a combined set.
Increasing Infinity Ring Symbolism
The symbolism of infinity rings is obvious, but when the rings are given can be even more meaningful. While choosing infinity rings as wedding bands is a popular option, many couples cannot afford such extravagant rings on top of the engagement ring cost and wedding expenses. Other meaningful occasions to present diamond infinity rings are…
- For a significant wedding anniversary – first, tenth, twenty-fifth, etc.
- At the birth of a first child.
- After overcoming relationship difficulties as a way to renew personal commitments to the marriage.
- As a gift for a personal achievement, such as an advanced educational degree, job promotion, or retirement.
- During a vow renewal wedding ceremony.
By giving the ring for a special occasion rather than just as another gift, the significance of both the diamonds and the infinity design is enhanced in a personal and intimate way.
Diamond infinity rings are beautiful designs as rich with symbolism as they are with precious stones and sparkle. By choosing a sentimental design and giving it for a meaningful gift, the ring is made even more outstanding, and when worn with honor, it is sure to help any relationship last.
